We are excited to announce the details of our 2019 painting's silent auction. If you have attended Jazz in the Valley before, you may know that our main poster art is actually a commissioned painting turned into a poster. We auction off the original painting each year. All proceeds go to assist in festival expenses such as our education/scholarship efforts, band payroll, and other costs. Plus, you get a great painting from a local artist. The painting is now available to see at Gallery One during the month of June. It will move to the Clymer Museum during the month of July. Both museums are also accepting silent auction bids while they show the painting. The minimum bid is $150. Bids are accepted now through the festival weekend. The winning bid will be announced on the festival main stage at 2pm on Sunday, July 28. After 40 years as an educator of elementary, middle, high school and college students, Steve Hall is pursuing an interest in art. His past endeavors were primarily pen and ink drawings. Several of his bird illustrations were featured in a Central Washington birding guide and a Mountaineers' publication. Lately, acrylic painting has captured his curiosity. This year's poster is homage to Steve’s parents whose love of jazz was infectious. Steve’s father played alto sax and clarinet in a jazz band that performed on a cruise steamer sailing from Seattle to Skagway, Alaska in the early 1930's. Mr. Hall's painting depicts an imaginary late-night, Paris jam session featuring Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Django Reinhardt. All three, along with many singers like Joe Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and all the big bands were ever present in Steve’s childhood. Steve is delighted to share his artwork with Jazz in the Valley, a wonderful celebration of American diversity.
